Are you dysregulated?

  • You can’t stop thinking about the past.
  • Everything feels impossible and you would rather just sit and scroll.
  • You can’t stop worrying or thinking about the future.
  • You can’t focus on one thing, instead its a game of jumping around and multitasking, never really landing.
  • It feels like things will never slow down.
  • You feel indifference towards life easily, “Whatever, I don’t care anymore.”

 

 

What even does dysregulated mean??

To keep it real simple, the term "dysregulated" is the opposite of regulated. Every single person is going to experience dysregulation at some point in their life. Dysregulation is part of being human. Dysregulation at a regular occurrence, daily, and long term can be very harmful to our bodies. Overtime it wears down not only our mental health but our physiology as well. We were made to have a natural response to an emergency but then easily go back to a state of regulation. Flowing between the appropriate states. But we weren't made to be in a state of emergency or shut down for long periods of time. 

 

Today, many individuals' nervous system are in a state of dysregulation and survival chronically. Anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic fatigue, to name a few.

-Anxiety is our nervous system on high alert, feeling like there is a tiger chasing us.

-Depression is our nervous system being shut down, numb and shutdown from being able to experience life in color.

-OCD is our nervous system on high alert for germs, or order, or some obsessive idea that things need to be just right in order to be safe.

-Chronic fatigue in short is our nervous system saying, I can't do life anymore. I am incapable of this. It is too much for me.

All of this turns into a hamster wheel of chronic dysregulation, wearing the body down. These are only a few examples.
