Mindset Shifts and Neuroplasticity Can Help You Navigate and change life’s toughest moments.

Life is full of ups and downs, and difficult seasons are inevitable. Whether it’s a period of personal loss, health struggles, career setbacks, or just a general feeling of being stuck, these moments can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck in survival and feeling hopeless. But what if there were tools you could use to help your mind adapt and recover more resiliently? What if your life could look different? What if there is a bright future for you?

Challenging seasons in life come in many forms. For some, it might be the stress of a demanding job or challenging relationship. For others, it could be chronic illness, financial troubles, or simply the weariness that comes with prolonged uncertainty. There are many contributors to how we got here. To how your nervous system might be stuck, struggling. Whatever your challenge, it’s important to acknowledge your feelings and give yourself permission to process them. But then, not stay there. We can’t just feel and process but not replace but instead we must give the brain and body with something better. Enter the concept of brain retraining—a transformative approach that harnesses the brain’s natural ability to change and heal.

Enter Brain Retraining:

Brain retraining is rooted in the science of neuroplasticity—the brain’s remarkable ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. This means that our thoughts, habits, and even emotional responses are not fixed. With intention and practice, we can teach our brains new patterns that support healing, growth, and resilience. Your life CAN be different!

Common practices and tools of Brain Retraining that are all within NSR:

  • Mindfulness: Regular mindfulness practice that help you redirect negative thought patterns and create new ones. Tell a different story. (your brain does not know the difference between real or imaginary, so this is a great advantage to healing)
  • Gratitude Journaling: Focusing on what’s going well and noticing wins, even in hard times, can shift your brain’s default mode from negativity to appreciation.
  • Positive Affirmations: Repeating constructive and empowering statements can gradually reshape self-perception and outlook. Knowing a different truth gained from studying a course like NSR and feeding your brain a science backed truth vs old limiting beliefs.
  • Becoming aware of your subconscious mind: Noticing those thoughts that are on autopilot under the surface. They are the #1 reason you are staying so very stuck in illness and stress. Finally recognize, interrupt, and reroute your subconscious.
  • Somatic Practices: Gentle movement, deep breathing, and specific exercises that connect the mind and body, acknowledge survival states and help you move to regulation. (Heads up, if the course you are doing does not have this piece, it is not a complete course for healing. Healing can still happen but it is missing a VITAL piece to healing the nervous system.)

Do I need brain retraining?

How many of these can you check off?

  • Perfectionism-things needing to be very structured and carefully thought out. Controlling and feeling like it’s all on you. Having a hard time trusting and letting others and God guide your life and decisions.
  • Confusion and inability to make decisions.
  • Pushing and crashing, lots of highs and lows. Emotionally, and physically.
  • Getting stressed out and overstimulated very easily with any amount of chaos, having very strong responses to your child, or people in your life.
  • Feeling very down about yourself, low self worth and confidence.
  • Being stuck in the past and not able to move beyond specific happenings. Constantly focused on a topic and talking and talking about it.
  • Often worrying about the future.
  • Being overly sensitive to your environment. Lights, sounds, smells, food intolerances,
  • Gut issues after eating that are inexplainable. Constantly detoxing, eating healthy, and taking all the supplements and STILL not thriving.
  • Rushing and multitasking, not being able to sit still. Triggered by quietness and not able to relax. Eating, walking, and talking fast. Always needing to have noise or stimulation. Not being able to sit and hold space for others.
  • Self absorbed-very focused on your problems and your world, not much energy or brain space left for others.
  • Using a lot of “should” and “need to” and totally neglecting your own needs and desires for everyone else’s. Being overly sorry and apologetic
  • Often having health issues around certain events. Church, family functions, appointments, dinner time, etc.
  • Always in crisis mode. Always overwhelmed and feeling exhausted but pushing to keep going because, CRISIS!!!!
  • Identifying with dysregulation and labels as if it is your personality and using those as excuses for behavior that is changeable and not a personality. Examples: My perfectionism makes me do xyz, my ADHD just makes me forget things, depression runs in the family so its just what I am prone to deal with. (This one breaks my heart as it is such a lie) Did you know YOU can be the one that changes that???
  • Fixating on news and needing to know all the details. Most conversations with others revolve around other people, gossip, and news. And lack any depth or real connection. (That’s too vulnerable)
  • Feeling like there is something wrong with you, clearly you are not ok, but all tests come back normal.

How many of these resonated with you?? These are ALL contributors to illness, and signs of your nervous system being in survival. Now, survival happens for everyone. It is part of being human. It is when we see these patterns often that we need to consider addressing our life. Chronic illness doesn’t just start with chronic illness. 90% of the time there was a ‘life’ leading up to it. Combine these with the unpredictable challenges of being a human, tragedies, and hardships and our nervous system can become stuck in survival. The good news, NSR has the tools you need to go from stuck in survival to THRIVING!!! With brain retraining, you can equip yourself to not just endure, but to emerge stronger and more adaptable. Your mind is more powerful and flexible than you might imagine. Your life is more changeable then you might ever have thought it was. There is so much hope for you! \

Final thoughts:

When you practice brain retraining regularly, you teach your mind to interpret challenges differently. Instead of defaulting to stress or defeat, your brain begins to recognize opportunities for learning, growth, and even gratitude. Over time, these new patterns become second nature, making you more resilient in the face of future adversity. Your brain is like a muscle that grows with attention. If you focus on pain and illness a lot, you show your brain that’s important. You are simply setting up your brain to stay in that state and continue to experience it. If you show it gratitude, joy and goodness and focus on that, giving it lots of attention, your brain will catch on that’s important. This sounds simple and brain retraining is NOT just about thinking positive, and the problems go away. Brain retraining is so much more then that.
