Did you know that your coping behaviors, and ways of responding to life or stress are all directly coming from the state your nervous system is in?
Lots of individuals have behaviors that are code for dysregulation and don’t even know it. Want to learn about a few?
Behaviors that are code for dysregulation:
- Simple tasks feel hard or impossible.
- Doom scrolling on social media.
- Needing to fix or resolve right away.
- Isolating and not wanting to get out.
- Rushing through tasks and not ever feeling like you have enough time.
- Withdrawing from communicating with others.
- Not allowing yourself to rest or enjoy doing nothing of accomplishment.
- Lack of creativity or inspiration about anything in the future.
- Constantly needing to move. (bounce a leg, fidget, pace)
- Not having proper hygiene, neglecting your own self.
- Obsessing about things. (weather, food, people, environment)
Now, if you are in a regulated place, you wont as soon feel the urgency to respond quickly. You will feel 100xs more capable about the same situation. You will feel more social and open towards others. The idea of the future won’t seem so bad. Being able to sit and relax for a time will feel ok. Your attention isn’t on things like food, weather, or triggers constantly but instead able to be on pleasant thoughts about your day, etc.
It is truly impressive, and many brain retrainers can agree with me, on how we can be in a dysregulated state, feeling incapable, suppressed or stressed about a situation. Then, bring in our tools that effectively help our nervous system work through this dysregulation and we can have the same situation but can feel completely different about it. Capable, open, and feeling like it is not so bad after all. It might sound funny but often even just 5 minutes of laughing has helped many turn their dysregulation into regulation. (laughter activates our parasympathetic nervous system, the rest, digest and healing part of us) Its not that complicated once you know what you are doing!!!
